The Doctor at Whitecroft

The locally infamous Whitecroft Hospital in the centre of the Island, now converted into housing, was originally opened in 1896 as the Isle of Wight County Lunatic Asylum. One hundred years later, a contractor unloading his car near to the clock tower caught sight of an older gentleman through a window into the former Rhodes-Tennyson ward. Dressed smartly in a long, dark frock coat with a high, white collar and neatly tended white hair but with no face,  the apparition leaned steadily against the old cast iron fireplace before eventually fading from sight.
