Chale Bay
Chale Bay
Known in days-gone-by as the 'Bay of Death', Chale Bay has been the demise of more than it's share of doomed ships throughout the Island's history. Prone to ferocious winds and with no lighthouse, ships often would risk the cargo and souls they carried to traverse this otherwise picturesque area of coastline. One such ship, the Clarendon, met it's end in October 1836 on its return from the West Indies when monstrous winds dragged it helplessly ashore. As many watched on helplessly from land as the Clarendon was torn apart by tyrannical waves, a former sailor, John Wheeler, fastened a rope around himself and ran towards the wreckage, dragging two survivors to the shore. A total of three members of the crew survived, with the remaining twenty-three passengers and crew lost to the wreckage.
Our large ghost figurines measure approximately 8cm tall and are hand-made with care on the Isle of Wight, thought to be the most haunted island in the world. Each ghost is completely unique and features an Isle of Wight shaped base. Please note that by virtue of the hand-making and finishing process, minor imperfections or colour variations may be present. These are normal and add to the character of each spirit, with each one being a true one-of-a-kind.
