The Wight Ghost Emporium
Michael Morey
Michael Morey
A woodcutter with a fearsome temper living near Downend on the Isle of Wight in 1736, Michael Morey was guardian to his 14 year old orphaned grandson James Dove. When his grandson came into a small inheritance, Morey flew into a rage and murdered him with his axe and tried to conceal the crime by hiding the body in the woods and burning down his cottage in an area now known today as Burnt House Lane. He was caught, tried and hanged at Winchester before his body was brought back and hanged from a gibbet to decay on the barrow near the Hare and Hounds pub, which houses the gibbet today. His spirit has been seen on the road nearby, head lolling to one side, hands tied behind his back and with dark pits where his eyes once were.
Our large ghost figurines measure approximately 8 cm tall and are hand-made with care on the Isle of Wight, thought to be the most haunted island in the world. Each ghost is completely unique and features an Isle of Wight shaped base. Matt finish. Please note that by virtue of the hand-making and finishing process, minor imperfections and slight colour variations may be present. These are normal and add to the character of each spirit, with each one being a true one-of-a-kind.
