In July 1813, Lieutenant John Blundell borrowed a coat from a fellow officer for his wedding to his young fiancé Anne. Several days later, he died in a room at the Wheatsheaf Inn in St. Thomas's Square, Newport, from a gunshot wound sustained in a duel fought over the garment. Although both men were unwilling, fellow officers goaded the pair until it became a matter of honour, resulting in a reluctant challenge from Blundell. The duel was fought in the ditch beside the wall of Carisbrooke, with Blundell taking a bullet to the right shoulder. After his death he was buried in the now decommissioned Church Litten graveyard and each year his widow carved his initials into the ground at the site of his shooting. In more recent history, visitors to the Inn are said to have encountered a female figure perched solemnly on the bed of a room on the first floor.

Our large ghost figurines measure approximately 8cm tall and are hand-made with care on the Isle of Wight, thought to be the most haunted island in the world. Each ghost is completely unique and features an Isle of Wight shaped base. Matt finish. Please note that by virtue of the hand-making and finishing process, minor imperfections or colour variations may be present. These are normal and add to the character of each spirit, with each one being a true one-of-a-kind.
