The Wight Ghost Emporium
The Smuggler
The Smuggler
The Isle of Wight, with its long encompassing coastline, was a haven for smugglers. Stories abound, but one in particular stands out in Island folklore. One man turned informant on his comrades and turned the band in to the Preventative men, who ambushed them near to where their stash was being kept near Clammerkin Bridge in Newtown. Those who survived soon identified the informant, wreaking their revenge in the bloodiest way. Centuries later an occupant if the cottage in which the slaughter took place would report a rapping on his bedroom door, night after night, with no culprit ever to be found.
This ghost features a rough exterior with brightly coloured gilding peering through.
